Waving Bodies

Two day contact improvisation dance journey

Dear people who want to dance!
We invite you to an immersive experience in the world of waves and vibrations for two days, in 14 hours!

The workshop is led by: Juli Gábor & Sándor Petrovics

The topic of the workshop:
The wave phenomenon is the basic condition of change, the universal language of movement, the heart of nature, the dynamic basic condition of life. Movement itself, from the galactic to the elementary particles, surrounds, enmeshes and builds us.
As humans, we can most tangibly connect to the nature of waves through water. It is the cradle of life and the best part of our bodies.
Since time immemorial, in religions and mythologies, water has been a symbol of chaos, which is a condition for the emergence of a new order. Where things turn into their opposites, where hybrids and dreams exist, where the impossible becomes possible.
Chaos is a judgement-free environment where unusual things can be redefined and tried out with impunity in a childlike way, in this never-ending pulsation that keeps on repeating itself yet always in different ways.

Contact improvisation
By its very nature, contact improvisation is eternal experimentation, play, being present, being in the body.
In contact improvisation, we first of all connect to ourselves: we open up to the outside world by sensing and knowing our own body. We use simple, natural focuses such as body awareness, vision, weight awareness, ground support and touch. From our focuses, dances are born in which we create continuous communication with the space and our partners through touch. Contact improvisation includes elements of martial arts and contemporary dance.

Ilan Lev Method
ILM is an Israeli holistic treatment. In doing so, we generate life force energy with a light touch and a waving, vibrating movement through the bone system. The method links back to the fluid safety of prenatal and newborn existence. The surprising timing of impulses confuses and tricks the mind into letting go of its childhood control over the body. In rocking, the analysing mind calms down, the body breathes, and organ and nervous function is optimised. The body’s self-healing processes start at the cellular level.

About us:

Juli Gábor
I found dance when I was a teenager and it has held me ever since, about 25 years ago. I tried a lot of different genres, but contact improvisation really stuck with me. Through this, I found Psychomotor Therapy Education in Denmark and the Ilan Lev Method, and currently my life and work as a teacher and manual therapist are based on these three pillars. Also, another important influence that affects my body awareness and movement world is the world of Afro-Latin social dances, which I would also like to bring into this workshop, as these dances are full of waves and spirals.

Sándor Petrovics
I gathered my professional experience as a contemporary dancer in Vertigo Dance Company and Tanzmainz Company. I also work as an Ilan Lev Method therapist. Through the medium of fantasy, within the framework of playfulness and a safe environment, my classes are about the renewal of community, the celebration of existence and togetherness.
